Mesh Broken After Smooth

Hey guys,

I have a mesh that appears to be fine, but when I press 3 to smooth it out, the mesh appears to become broken. I am a bit new to modelling and I am unsure what causes these breaks or how to fix it. Any advice?

That corner face is an Ngon, meaning it has more faces than a quad (4) or a tri (3). Smoothing ngons makes them go bonkers. You need to break up that big ole beast into quads and tris. 🙂
