Maya not using computer resources

I have a model that has a lot of vertices. While editing in the UV editor, I have to "stitch together" and "set" a lot of the vertices. I thought it would be quicker to stitch/set all the edges/faces I needed to at the same time, but the progress bar at the bottom-left seems to always get stuck/progress super slow. The viewport also gets super laggy and jittery. Checking task manager I found that Maya barely uses any of my computer's resources while processing tasks.

The highest it has ever gotten is

15% CPU,

0% GPU, and

6% RAM.

I was wondering how I could improve resource usage in the viewport. Any forum posts would direct me to render related questions.

A lot of math is only possible single threaded.
And its possible if you have a heavy scene that your graphics card is running out of vram.

Could you post more details about your scene and hardware?

The scene is just a single model with many vertices, which leads me to believe my system can handle it and it's just my Maya configuration. Admittedly my GPU doesn't have the best VRAM, but when I checked yesterday, my whole system wasn't using more than 50% of the available VRAM.

Hardware:
CPU: Intel i7-11700k

GPU: RTX 3070 (8 GB VRAM)

RAM: 32 GB

The low usage across everything leads me to believe Maya isn't requesting more resources.

If there is nothing in the scene why should Maya use more ram?
Do you have any comparison on other workstations where its a lot faster?

I just reread your first response about the single threading, that's probably the reason why the program was so slow. I'm new to Maya and I didn't know it ran that way.

I tried replicating the issue today but the file runs fine now, though I'm not sure why. If the issue is math related I'm assuming that the problem fixed itself when I deleted the model history.

As for comparisons, not really. I haven't had super-heavy scenes where a better computer would see drastic performance differences. That's why I was confused as to why my Maya was lagging before.

Thanks for your help.
