I'm watching a course and the teacher does this with the multi cut tool:

But I can't do it.

He does all of these cuts with the multi cut tool:

How can I do it?

Hold with Shift

It appears if I hold Control with LMB.

But, when I tried the first time, it doesn't work. Sometimes, something strange happens with Maya: at first, it doesn't work, but later on, it works.

By the way, the teacher doesn't hold any key to use it.

I rarely use that tool unless I’m in quad retopo but you can also use the standard loop tool.

I’ll have to check when I’m at computer.

yeah it wasn't Shift, You just need to hold "Control" key down with the Multi cut tool active or Shelf button Mesh Tools>Insert edge loop which has better modeling features.
