insert edge loop tool not inserting and/or dragging

Recently Maya 2016 gives me some trouble when attempting to insert an edge loop. Regardless of shape it immediately confines the edge loop to the nearest edge but doesn't then actually make one.

I have to end up using the multi cut tool to insert an edge loop. Searched a lot online for a fix. But nothing solid. It was working fine till recently.

Any ideas on a fix?

PS. Running Maya 2016 SP5 on Mac OSX 10.9.5 edge-loop-tool-problem-2.jpg

Another basic poly but same issue... Insert edge loop tool not inserting edge loop.

If I go to my Maya 2014 it works.  But I need to work in 2016.edge-loop-problem.jpgworks. But I need to work in 2016.

Bump....

Still no ideas anyone? I've gone with a workaround by using the Multicut tool in Maya 2016... but surely there must be a way to resolve the Insert Edge Loop tool problem....

Anyone... *sound of crickets.....

Do you have snap to grid enabled?  Check that you have no snaps enabled.

Hey @Anonymous, don't know if you managed to solve your issue back then, but I recently stumbled upon the same issue (although on Win 8, Maya 2016). Solutions found around the internet didn't work for me, and haven't exactly understood what caused it in the first place (was it working before or not? installing the Bonus Tools messed with it? using some non default settings?).

Anyway what fixed it for me was simply restoring the default settings:

 - from the main menu bar go to Windows->Settings/Preferences->Preferences

 - then in the preferences window click on Edit->Restore Default Settings

Restore Default SettingsRestore Default Settings

I am guessing a solution to this has already been found but not recorded.

For those stumbling upon this topic a solution can be found by going to Windows > Settings/Preferences and going to the Snapping settings. Under Edge Snapping there are two adjustable options: Snap magnates and Magnate tolerance. Pulling snap magnates back to 0 will allow you to insert a new edge loop freely. The snapping options are describes here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/Maya/fil...
