insert edge loop not looping

Screen Shot 2018-10-17 at 12.01.03 PM.pngThe orange line, the edge loop, is supposed to go all around the geometry to the right. But somehow it just stops midway??? My geometry is clean with no duplicate verts or faces. I don't think this is supposed to happen. If so, how can I make it go all around?

Go into a side or front view and select all the faces and use the multi-cut tool,  shift and drag the tool across where you want the edge.  Bam...done

But that's going to take a lot of time and it lacks precision, right? Is there a way to actually make the edge loop work?

No.  Select all the faces you want the edge on and hit the shift key and drag across where you want the edge and it will automatically insert an edge through every selected face.

Test it out.

The edge loop only works with clean topology, quads, you have a section in your mesh that needs to be cleaned.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Returns out that I deleted edges using the the backspace instead of the "delete edge/vertex" tool, leaving extra verts/edges in a standard quad. Thanks for reminding.

cleaning, fixing the topology manually with quads so that the loops works continuously.
