import file backwards

Hi-
I imported an stl file of a heart and the file is sort of backwards. i had a solid heart and i took muliple boolean differnece expresstion out of the heart so it would be less material to print however after inporting into maya, it for some reason assumes the inside is "main object" so when i give it color it only colors the inside. my two ideas are either to change the "important side" or to fil the middle. i tried to use the fill tool but i dont think it works because it suumes the middle is the "main part".
