Hello I am using maya for making 3d designs to 3d print and was wondering how I could accurately measure the size of an object in MM units. I know how to change my working units to MM but those dont seem to change anything.

Here, what are your Working Units? Default setting is CM, so the measurements are in centimeters. Not too hard to figure once you create default cube and measure its edge.

Sorry, I am not familiar to Slicer. Even assuming you measured precisely vertex-to-vertex, some precision discrepancies might happen on translation from one software to another. Keep in mind, Maya primarily is a tool for animation, where that minute relation to the real life is kind of irrelevant. For the precision you'd look in AutoCad or Inventor then.

As for the printing, the Slicer would be the final say about the object's size, since it is directly related to the printing hardware. Therefore I'd model in Maya, and scale up imported model within Slicer so that it fits desired dimensions.
