How to make a mesh symmetrical without changing vert order

What is the fastest way to snap one half of a mesh (in my case it's a head mesh) so that it becomes symmetrical? I can't change the vertex order or in other words I can't duplicate, flip, combine and merge the mesh. The only way I know of is to go make a symmetrical template mesh and using that to snap each vertex to it's corresponding vertex in the template. I'm hoping there is a faster way. Thanks.

Hi!

A) Use Symmetrize (recommended).

B) Create a duplicate, make it symmetrical and then if the vertex order is changed use Transfer Vertex Order (from original to duplicate), or

C) use Transfer Attributes ("Vertex Position" from duplicate to original object).

Thanks that is very helpful!

Some extra detail

  • Edit Mesh > Symmetrize
  • Select duplicate then the original
  • Mesh > Transfer Attributes - hit the option box
  • Turn on vertex positions, turn off the others
  • Then choose UV for sample space

Be sure to check the problem area to make sure it has worked
