Fill Hole Not Working

I've gone through the suggestions and tried the cleanup but it still isn't working. I'm attaching the mesh in hopes that someone can help me solve this problem.

You extruded the mesh, it cannot be closed, that would create illegal geometry.

The mesh is full of problems but after a cleaned up you can close the hole and fix the rest although

the way this is modeled is completely incorrect and should be remodeled.

Do you have any advice as to the best way to remodel it? I've attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to do. We need to simulate water running through the pump, so I need to create a container to hold the water.

Please examine this file Randy, I chose to do it with 2 EPcurves linear mode and lofted, then extrude if its a belt, if not and you wanna close the center part then, select surrounding edges and fill hole , triangulate then quadrangulate.

I've saved the steps that it took, also when making a curve, even if you end up using SweepMesh, it's always best to use as few curve points as needed to shape the desired curve, that way you can manipulate much easier and then press the 3 key, since we are using a SubD workflow . If you want , later you can just apply a real smooth on the mesh to lock it down, however this method is a bit outdated cause is difficult to return to the fewer polygon version. Mesh>Smooth.

A lot of meshes these days are open SubD , created by Pixar and standard in the industry.

A lot of your other posts with Cad meshes are dirty so that's the reason sometimes a Maya tool won't work. Mesh needs to have clean polys.

Good luck and I hope this helps you.👍
