Hi!

Based on the wrong highlighting, when hovering components, there could be a problem with your mesh.

Please upload a scene-file.

Hi!

I could not reproduce the problem here.

Component highlighting is correct and

with "Camera-based selection" enabled in Tool Settings,

only the "front" faces will be selected.

So it looks like a problem with your system.

Please check for solutions about problems with GPU/driver.

(Try different driver, Render Engine setting in Maya, ...)

Hi, I am having the same problem. I went through all the settings that can fix the problem, but still nothing. I uninstalled Maya LT 2020, updated to 2020.03 still the same thing. I am using a Surface Laptop 3, 13" model. Using an i5 with intel Irus Graphics, 8GB RAM.

*UPDATE*

Sorry, I couldn't find the edit button.

So Maya LT does let me select the faces I want, if I zoom the camera far out to the point, I can't even it the mesh. When I zoom close to the mesh, maya face selection will start to jump to faces I do not want to select. This is frustrating, given I purchased maya for the sole purpose to use it on my laptop.

Hi!

If all software options do not help, you need a different hardware.

I highly recommend to use a system with a dedicated 3D graphic card if you want to use a 3D application.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I wont be able to use Maya then. I'll have to stick to Silo 3D. 😕

I had the same problem but I managed to fix it. The issue appeared after some faces had been extruded, undoing until before extruding didn't solve it. I had the same issue on another PC a while ago and the issue appeared after extruding if I remember correct (never managed to solve the issue on that PC).

Somewhere else on the internet I read that it could be related to the graphics card driver. I'm running Maya version 2020.4 (student) on a Surface Laptop 3 13.5 inch Intel Core I5 and 8GM RAM on Windows 10 version 2004. So I went to Device Manager and removed the Intel(R) Iris(R) Plus Graphics driver under the 'Display adapters'-section. Out of curiosity I didn't reboot the computer right after removing the driver but booted up Maya instead and did some testing. With the driver removed the issue seemed to be fixed, faces could be selected normally as expected! Then after restarting the computer to reinstall the driver the issue was back.

Here is how I managed to fix the issue:

  1. In Maya, go to Windows -> Settings/Preferences -> Preferences.
  2. Select the 'Display'-category.
  3. Under 'Viewport 2.0' change the Rendering Engine to 'DirectX 11'.
  4. Click 'Save' and restart Maya.

Somehow 'DirectX 11' is the only option that fixed this issue for me, all other 'OpenGL'-options did not solve the issue. The other options might work for you, I just tried all of them until the issue was fixed.

Hope this helps!

Major thank you, it worked! Must have been iGPU drivers not playing well with openGL. I had the same thing on i7-1065g7, and noticed it worked when ridiculously zoomed out. Fresh install didn't fix it, but your suggested setting change did.

No
DirectX is just for viewport Display. Your final Arnold render will be
fine. Or any other render engine.
