Extruding and inputting numbers in thickness

I am trying to extrude with accurate, specific numbers but having some trouble. When I extrude and click on the "Thickness" tap to input number, say 0.05, nothing happens. Only way to move what I have extruded is to hold on to the arrow and move or click on Thickness and move from there, but it jumps straight from 0 to 1 which is too much.

I have seen many Maya tutorials where they put in specific numbers in the tab and it works for them, but is not working for me. Any idea why that is?

I have tried both 0.5 and 0,5 and neither works, by the way.

After you activate the extrude tool, double-click on its icon (to the left of your viewport) to open its settings. Make sure "Discrete Move" is not checked...then try your extrude again.

My problem is not extruding itself, its that I can't write the numbers in the thickness tap that pops up when I do extrude, as well as offset and thickness.

Also, Discrete Move was not checked already and I still jumped from 0 up to 1 when I tried to manually move.

Make sure you don't have the "lock current selection" option enabled. (That would prevent you from entering numbers in those fields.)

It is toggled using the icon that looks like a padlock at the top of your screen just to the left of the snapping icons. Also make sure you don't have snapping enabled.

Sorry, but could you tell me more of where it is?

I am not seeing any padlock anywhere. Also, what is snappin icons and where can I check if the snapping is disabled?

See below. You may have to click on the thin vertical lines in your toolbar to expose these icons. The ones inside the red box are the snapping icons.

No, there was nothing wrong there. "Lock Current session" was not on as well as that snapping.

I just can't seem to be able to write a number in the tab when I extrude, right there in the thickness. I write any number and hit enter, and nothing happens.

Does it happen in every scene? If you start a new scene and create a polygon cube and try to extrude a face, do you have the same problem?

If so, you may want to try resetting Maya using these instructions.

the more important question in this case is: where are you from?
there was a region/language problem with the IVE´s. so with a non u.s. region and not english language setting (one or both) it will not work. either change your windows settings or use the channel box or attribute editor instead.

well, I am in Norway right now...

I could have sworn this was working just fine yesterday when I was doing a tutorial, but now its no longer working. Its driving me nuts, honestly.

I tried that reset Maya thingie and it did not work at all, btw.

I tried switching language via windows but THAT also did not work.

So how exactly can I use the channel box or attribute editor for what I am trying to do here?

Look on the right side of the screen capture you posted...try entering a number in that thickness field. (That's the attribute editor.)

Okay, that did work. Thanks man.

I do wish it did work though like in the videos I been watching, but to hell with it. At this point I take this as a victory XD

yes like pshwayka said. and if it´s not just the language (i don´t remember if it had to be both) also change your region. what i did to make it work: location: us, language english (us) and 3.5 separation with "," gives 35, with "." gives 3.5.

since you are student dl maya 2016 where it was fixed.
