Edge not deleting...

I have several edges that will not delete. There are no faces connected, so the edges are suspended in space. I can select any number of edges but when I press delete they just deselect. I don't have more then one line occupying the space, nothing is hidden, and restarting maya hasn't helped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi pineapplecartoon,

Typically, that behavior is indicative of several vertices overlapping each other; it usually occurs when deleting an edge using a method other than Edit Mesh > Delete Edge/Vertex) ... AFAIR, pre-Maya 2014 didn't have this menu option.

Try switching to Vertex (Vertices) mode and going to each end of the edge and merging the vertices (Edit Mesh > Merge).  You may need to repeat this process if several edges converge to the same area.

Hope that helps,

I've had this happen, and believe it was related to a miss-click with the modeling toolkit.  turns out, buried within the edges was an actual polygon.  I had to tear apart the model to locate on the edges.
