Duplicate Special fails

I'm a newby with Maya 2015.  When I used "Duplicate Special" with my -1 in the X, direction, all I get is a Line which appears to be the result.
At one point it worked, and then I must have screwed something up??  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

can you show a screenshot with the object before dup. special select and you channel box visible? please also include the outliner with the hierarchy of the object in case it´s grouped parented. i think it´s related to something like this.

hmm the selected group you show should not cause any problems. i was hoping to see the channel box of the pCube1 from your previous screenshot.
what you can always try in cases like this: freeze transformations of the object in question and of all hierarchy above. if you cant freeze the hierarchy unparent it and try again.

Tried those things again.  Getting same response.  Single line being shown.

If you are trying to get the other half of the aircraft mirrored...just use the mirror geometry feature.

Two things to try...

First - If you haven't already, reset the tool settings in your Dup Special tool (Edit -> Reset Settings).

Second - If the reset doesn't do the trick, make sure your pivot is set to the edge of the object you're trying to duplicate. What I'll typically do is "Group" said object, so that way you're pivot point is set to ground zero, then Dup Special from there.

Also...in one classroom instance, I did see a student who just couldn't Dup Special from the original geometry...only saw this happen once and really not sure what the student did, but what finally fixed the problem was we just did a regular duplicate of the original object and were then able to Dup Special from the duplicate.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Hi!

In the Duplicate Special Options window the values for scale are [-1 0 0], but it should be [-1 1 1], if you set scale for an axis to 0 you loose this dimension, so with -[1 0 0] you end up with a 1-dimensional object, which is a line.
