cant import obj Models into Maya 2017 due to the error code below

Hello,

I have tried to import a obj File that i recieved from a friend but the only thing that happens is the following error code

// Error: file: /Applications/Autodesk/maya2017/Maya.app/Contents/scripts/others/hikCharacterControlsUI.mel line 329: Object 'hikCharacterList|OptionMenu' not found.

I dont really know what to do. I already checked the obj file and it seems fine, through the preview app on Mac OS i can get a rough 3D view of the model which worked perfectly fine.

Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2017 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2017 to 2017_backup. Maya creates new folders. Detailed at:
