Cannot Sculpt after Operation

Having issues with Sculpting in Maya 2016. (Is sculpting a new feature?)

Making a character. When I combine the head and body into one mesh, I can no longer use the sculpt tools. It asks to select a mesh, but wont allow the combined mesh to be selected.

I ran into this earlier with the Mirror Geometry tool as well, and had to work around it the old fashioned way. I've gone back through my saves, and it is absolutely this Combine feature that disables the Sculpting Tools.

Anyone experience this? Any tips?

THANKS

yes sculpting is a new feature at least in it´s current implementation.

just from your description i dont see an obvious reason why it should not work if it works on each mesh on it´s own. only thing coming to my mind is that the head´s and the body´s mesh normals are facing in different directions or something else got messed up after/during combine. in any case when you try sculpting you should get an error message with an hint on why it will not acccept the mesh.
