Camera projection mapping issue. Projected texture doesn't align with the image plane.

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to apply texture( same image as the image plane in the bg) as a projection on to the objects in the scene, but for some reason the projected texture doesn't align with the image plane. I have linked the camera properly and also done other settings as well but the problem is not solving. The projected texture seems to be offsetting or maybe having different resolution. I am not sure. I have attached the images which clarifies the problem.

Kindly have a look at the images and please help out if possible. Thanks!

If the resolutions doffer, then we are talking in vain. can you check those?

And screenshots from a camera view is not enough.

Can you parent the projectin's 3dPlacement node under the camera, make sure there is no positional and angular offset, make then some object texture placement tests, post screenshots not only from the camera, but also from persp at angle, where we can see what is going on.

Do you know the camera information of that picture?

1. The problem seems to be fixed. So before, for the placement of Image plan i was using the 'Fill' mode but now I set it to 'Best' and 'Fit to resolution gate' option. I also matched the resolution of the image which is 850 x 629 with the image size in render settings.

So after doing all this the projected texture aligns with the image plane in 'Rendered image' but still looks displaced in the viewport of perspective camera. Any idea what was the real problem?

2. So, I am trying to project the texture on to the Speed sign board and the Wall next to it. Since the sign board is very close to the wall so the sign board texture is also visible on the wall. Any idea how i can deal with it? I hope my question makes sense, its really hard to explain in words.

I have attached the images for the reference. Thank you!

I'd say, crop out the sign plate and make a normal texture in the photoshop. Otherwise the sign will have the edge color premult between the sign and the wall. A projection, like yours, is a good for a static camera only, starting point for a texture. For even a minute camera motion you need to paint over tho hide the speed signs.

That Image is already cropped. It is taken with not a full frame aperture. So I agree with hamster to cheat with comp programs.

I did not mean to involve any comp program. Yes, we can do projections in many of them - AFX, Nuke, Resolve, to name some, yet we don't know what the author is after.

Instead, I meant to make separate textures for the speed sign from image fragments cropped out from the general projection.

I know exactly what you are suggesting I was just adding few more information for him to keep in mind that if we do not have detail camera info, It is difficult to match a projection. There comes the artistic cleverness to cheat and make it to work. In his case it will be easier for him as the camera is going to be static, it least that is what I am thinking.

Thanks Guys for your help and tips you have given. I might just Photoshop the texture and crop out the speed sign and create a separate texture of minor objects. Cheers!
