Hi!

1. Without any light and using "Use ALL Lights (...that are currently in the scene)" all objects are black in Viewport, you should not expect something different.

2. You don't need to export the lights in your scene if you don't want to! ???

Hi!

There is absolutely no difference between both objects.

Does adding a light not work for you?

Please upload the Maya scene(s) + screenshots to better indicate what's your problem.

Hi!

Using Mode "Use All Lights" + having not a single light will result in black objects. That's normal, because 0 (no) lights will be used

So there are 2 solution:

A) Add at least one light to your scene, or

B) Change Lighting to "Use Default Lighting"

Mesh Display>Set to Face

I know this is old but nobody answered the question.  I import objects from Solidworks and this happens a lot.  I'm sure people check this but usually the face normals are pointing the wrong way, but even after flipping normals the object is still black.  However Going to the Mesh Display menu and selecting Set to face has always fixed this problem for me.

Andy, I cannot begin to explain how thankful I am for your comment! Mesh Display >> Set to Face fixes all of the rendering issues I've been having. I nearly gave up completely on my project. Thank you so much! I'd gild you if this was reddit.

Peace,
Matt
