Background: My old Mac OS modeling program is no longer supported and won't run on the most recent system versions. I need a new modeler. I was looking into Maya or Maya LT as a possibility. But here's the problem: when I export objects from the old program as .obj files and then try to import them into Maya LT, Maya LT acts as if the .obj files contain no data. I ran into the same problem with Blender. Someone on a forum there said that my problem is that the .obj files created by my old modeler uses carriage returns as a delimiter instead of new line. He said the files could be edited in a text editor to correct that, but that's just Greek to me. An app called Cheetah3D is the only one I've found so far that will open my .obj files. I had hoped Maya LT would do it, but no such luck. I don't like the look of Cheetah3D's interface and I'm not sure I want to use it, but unless I can get these .obj files to open somewhere, somehow, I may be stuck. Does anyone know to find/replace \r with \n in a text editor that will work with binary files? I figure the chances of Autodesk creating a fix is pretty much zero.
