Default lambert being assigned to object once auto-unwrapped.

Hi Team,
Wierd one here...when I auto-unwrap mesh it assigns a default poly shader to the mesh causing prior phongs assigned to the mesh to be disconnected. weirdest thing is is that its a default shader is a lambert. Is there a setting that I have selected that could be causing this issue ?
