Attribute Editor stops with updating

Anonymous

Hello,

Regularly, after about half of hour of modeling, Attribute Editor in Maya LT 2017 refuses to update on selection. Of course I have "Auto Load Selected Attributes" turned on, all the time, but it still updating only if forced manually,  using 'selected' in AE menu . Somehow in same time, HUD does not recognize selection (number of selected vertices and such) immediately, but it does after going to object mode and back to components. After reloading Maya, everything is fine again.

Is there a 'refresh Maya' command or something similar, so I'd be able to avoid the reload ? I'm running Maya on Win 7 sp 1.

It's still there - while I only deleted userPrefs.mel and windowsPrefs.mel, leaving Maya to re-create these two. I have a lot of custom hotkeys in Softimage style, simply I won't be able to model without them. For now it seems it is somehow related to Bridge tool, however I'm still not able to reproduce the exact procedure that disables the AE and HUD update . Also, sometimes, moving in tweak mode, using symmetry, has inverse effect, according to symmetry axis. Hope I'll find exactly where it happens.

Ok, been able to reproduce with Maya defaults, with around 50% probability. Something like: create plane, create another plane, delete the row of let's say three or four polygons on one plane. Fill the holes with Bridge, repeating the Bridge action (from marking menu) for each poly (so, three or four Bridge actions), until complete hole is closed. Go back to object mode, try to select another plane. Object x symmetry is on, all the time. In-view editors are disabled (via Display>HUD). Bridge tool is on default.

Hello @Anonymous,

I have tested this on my end in Maya 2017 on a windows machine and so far I have not been able to replicate the issue. Would is be possible for you to download and install Screencast (it is free Autodesk Software for screen recording) and create a screen capture of what you are seeing?

Thank you. At this point I am going to close the case that was automatically created in our system. but I will continue to assist you through the forums.

Cheers,

David Santos

Hello,

Screen cast with short description is here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast/55eea792-832b-44ef-8f82-c0561e261e5a

Of course I know that no one 3d app likes a lot of construction history, and Maya seems to be especially sensitive here, politely to say. However, this seems to be a bit too much, practically bringing a former high - end app, down to a level apps like Silo or others no-construction-history toys. Blender is looking like pro modeling app, compared to current Maya state.

Thanks

I am really liking Maya but I also have these graphical issues which are quite troublesome and frustratingly random and difficult to work around. Can we please get a fix for this?

Btw if anyone is interested, one way to avoid this, is to go back into object mode after each bridge edge. Seems to be something with GUI, not too long chain of nodes.

Now I have to admit that I generally do not like Maya, except I was a fanboy long time ago. From my Max and XSI perspective Maya modeling is just inconsistent hell, starting from three, four different methods to deal with 'sliders', to sudden, 'by design'  jumping of cage mode with every next modeling operation, different results when something is done in viewport or outliner, 'modifer stack' dispersed all around in different windows,  so on and so on. Switched to Blender for modeling, hope to finally replace Softimage by Max, and forget that Maya Candid Camera show. Somehow I feel grateful to AD for 'enough' buggy Maya.

I just started using it because I didn't like the difficulty curve of blender and am just starting to do 3d game assets for indie game dev work. Other than some graphical and UI glitches that can be solved by saving, closing and re-opening I don't see any major issues. Well, it does crash sometimes while doing very routine things which sucks. Save often...

Some issue here. I reset my preferences but issue remains.

I'm on MacOS Sierra.

This problem makes maya totally unusable. Any updates on this issue?!

Thanks

tom

Yeah it really sucks because maya is way easier to learn than blender and even worth the money, however i had to abandon it due to these same issues and random crashes with too much lost work. Very sad, i really liked it too.

Same problem for me. Maya 2019 on Mac OSX.

If I toggle "Auto Load Selected Objects" it sometimes refreshes correctly

I feel like it might be certain tools that cause the attribute editor to give up.  Adding edge loops has definitely done it to me.  UV Cutting has done it in the past.  I dont think I have ever gotten the bug on basic things like extruding, combining, or separating so I feel like one day given the time I may need to run through all the tools and find out which ones are breaking Maya.  What operation system is everyone on that has had the issue.  Maya version isnt the issue since Ive had this problem since 2014'ish.
