Splash screen: hide only after maya is fully started
Would be really nice if the Maya splash screen doesn't disappear until Maya has actually finished loading all plugins. Now you are "tricked" and think that Maya is done loading, while it's often far from the truth.
An additional input for Maya 2019: It won't load in the background. Instead, it pops over anything more urgent I do.. 3 times at least. What functionality it serves? I can read the "joyful" messages of Arnold loading and its invalid settings also when I deliberately switch to Maya. In case this is still present in the late 2020s and upcoming 2021 version.
We've now fixed this in our internal builds - just a matter of time now before the fix shows up in a future release - stay tuned and I'll update this 'Idea' once that release becomes available. Thanks, and sorry this took so long to get around to.
@Anonymous Obviously this should be taken into consideration, Maya should know what plugins it needs when opening a scene for example via a small index embedded in the scene itself and the background loading priority should change accordingly.
This is nothing new, plenty of programs load stuff in the background while the user can already work with them, Blender or Affinity Photo for example.
We redesigned the Maya startup experience in Maya 2022.
Gone are the days when Maya shows you the UI, but it's not quite ready for input ... and it lags ... and lags ... until it's (maybe) finally ready. We fixed this. This is the new startup experience:
Show Maya's splash screen as soon as possible (don't wait for licensing validation)
Don't open the Output window on startup
Show license validation progress
Show overall progress in splash screen (progress bar shows which plug-ins are loading, instead of loading them while Maya's UI becomes available ... to which some plug-ins can alter the UI in the process and cause UX issues)
Hide the splash screen and show the fully-built Maya UI only when Maya is idle and 100% ready for input
Oh, and the startup is now much faster, after we've cleaned up Maya's starter scripts, removing a load of lines of code, and optimized the startup code.
