Thanks for the Idea @Anonymous ! To clarify - are you looking for a quick one button solution to add these materials and switch between them in the viewport? Or is it just that you want the materials included so you can assign them as you do any material in Maya?
@laurence.cymet a simple additional material (matcap) just like how you can select blinns, lamberts, and phongs, you could do a button where it turns on like a viewport 3.0 render as well but personally i think it should just be a material that can be applied and not a general render that you toggle
they are great in blender. From what Ive noticed they are not simple materials but they come with their own lighting and reflections like a studio lighting. If implemented then better do it properly along with some options to cutomize and tweak them. It should be a quick button/option on top of the wieport where should also be their otherwise digging them into menus it would kinda defeat their purposes.
