When a scene contains several references pointing to the same file, Maya reads from said file over and over. It would be a huge improvement if it only had to read the file once instead.
This is actually optimized when opening a scene. Say you open a file that has the same file referenced ten times, it loads it only once. Right?
However, what I'd love to see though is somehow allow this to happen even outside of Opening a scene, for example when you'd want to load the same reference multiple times (in scripting or through the UI)
whaaaaaaaaaat this is absolutely not the case in our studio, or at home. Perhaps the scenes you’re referencing are stored somewhere with REALLY good caching? I don’t know.
