Allow saving scene with unknown nodes when changing file format (.ma <> .mb)

(Copied from original User Voice forum)

"When there is an unknown node in the Maya scene file, and you wish to change the file from an MB to an MA file type, Maya currently gives an error saying it cant change the file type due to the unknown node...

Instead of giving the error (which many newbies may not know how to go about fixing), can't Maya just show a pop up box to delete the unknown node and save as the desired file type, or save as current file type instead?"

I had this exact issue when I was on the phone with tech support and they had to show me how to workaround this by deleting the unused nodes. I agree a prompt asking if you'd like to delete them would be great in helping people understand why they can't save.

I was just thinking about the same thing.

I don't even ask for a prompt window, I just want Maya to automatically delete these nodes upon saving, as they are completely useless, I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
