Add the feature to Mirror HIK Poses, Animations and a Pose Library

Dear Autodesk,

 

First of all, change "Animation Editors -> Pose Editors" to "Pose Interpolators." The term 'Pose Editors' is confusing and sounds more like Pose Controls from MotionBuilder.

 

Here's what will really rock Maya:

 

1) Add the feature to Mirror HIK rig poses and animations. Basically, same functionality from MotionBuilder. I wouldn't complain but at the time of writing, MotionBuilder only works on Linux and Windows but I am a Mac user. So, I can't transfer projects from MB to Maya, etc. Also, exporting to FBX then mirror the animations in MotionBuilder is a massive waste of time.

 

2) Buy https://www.studiolibrary.com and make it a native part of Maya. And of course update the script to support Maya HIK. We can simply create a folder in Google Drive and sync the poses across multiple machines and development team. That's efficient and really cool! On the contrary, Maya's Visor seems to work in project level or just not user friendly.

Completely agree on 'Pose Editor' as misleading.. it is skin tuning, not pose changing.

Besides, mirroring in M2019 is far from one click action:

1. It doesn't work on renamed poseInterpolators and poses: had Elbow_L_PI with Elbow_L_Bent100 - can't find entered sting. Had to copy back those mouthful, unintuitive names.

2. I am working with TheSetupMachine3 auto-rig, where e. g. the mirrored hips have different non-zero rotations, that are rig-locked. Mirroring the poses flips one of the legs, messing up the mirrored blendshapes. There was no way to adjust/offset the Driver joint rotation, as the settings in poseInterpolator node are presented in 4x4 Matrix form, which makes no sense, and changes had no effect; PI node attrs/editing were nowhere/poorly explained. The UI Driver section could have been made like for parentConstraint:

Had to redo pose interpolation mirror poses manually, luckily Symmetry command was a saver.

3. However, where the Symmetry did not help, was body bending sideways - left to right mirroring hung Maya. Ended up with a vtx-to-vtx snapping workaround.
