Add/Remove/Refresh to Isolated Selection

In Softimage you can Add, Remove or Refresh the isolated selection from the viewport using the buttons on the top left corner of the viewport

This is extremely convenient. To add something to the currently isolated selection in Maya. I have to select all the objects already isolated, then the one I want to add and click two time on the isolation button (one time to un-isolate, one time to re-isolate)

In addition:

I use "isolate select" quite often on a hotkey...

But when the mouse cursor is not placed over the view panel (instead e.g. at the outliner) it gives an error.

This command should be working whereever you are.

Thanks for the Idea @Anonymous and @BenediZ - I concur that it should be easier to add and remove

In case you missed it - there is a menu available to do this in the viewport panel "Show" menu. I am guessing taht from your input that this workflow is too cumbersome, but please let us know if this is useful. Thanks.

I think going each time to show>Isolate select>Add or Remove Kind a lot of clicks.
while if it was similar to softimage (+,-,Refresh,X) like what @Anonymous  mention, that will be easy and fast rather than going to the menu each time.

You're not wrong, it is more clicks for sure.  I've got the unlucky job of having to prioritize this compared to everything else the team is doing.  This is something we'll have to live with the way it is.

Hi, thanks for the tips...

a) So it's possible to undock the window

(see below, also an interesting function do bookmark while it's in isolated mode)

Or

b) to put the MEL-commands on own hotkeys or shelf buttons

Reload/refresh:

doReload modelPanel4;

isolateSelect -loadSelected modelPanel4;

Remove:

removeSelectedFromEditor modelPanel4;

Add:

addSelectedToEditor modelPanel4;
