Accept more ideas

About 1% of ideas have been accepted. How do you decide which ideas to accept?

I genuinly think if the community isn't listened to, autodesk will lose out to sidefx, cinema, blender, you name it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We agree with you CallumX4542, that's why this whole system was created.

You should see the amount of notes and ideas we have from customer visits in our database as well.

Trust me, we're definitely listening.  Every single one of the features the team is working on right now comes from a customer idea/request.  There isn't a single feature we're working on that hasn't come from a customer and been validated that people want it/will find it useful.

We definitely want you to be happy & are doing our very best.  Our challenge is the huge number of customers and uses Maya finds itself in, everything from games to film to tv to automotive to industrial design to robots to theme parks to ...

Please keep posting and we'll keep doing our best.  Happy to discuss or have a phone call, hit me up.

To add to TJ's reply, I should provide a bit of clarification on our status definitions:

  • When an idea is set to Accepted, it's something that we've either already fixed internally (and is currently being beta tested, and may be integrated in an upcoming release) or it's something we're actively researching a solution for.  In other words, "Accepted" means our commitment to providing a solution is there - it should only be a matter of time before the idea is marked "Implemented" which means the solution is finally available in a public release build.
  • When an idea is set to Under Review, it's an idea we like, an idea we want to find a solution for, an idea that we agree warrants our attention sooner than later.  And so we mark an idea as "Under Review" when the team has gotten together, discussed the idea (we do this on a weekly basis), agreed on its importance and are committing to investigating the idea/problem/solution further.  While it doesn't promise it'll eventually be implemented, it is a promise that it has our current attention and interest (and has usually gathered enough community support/votes).  Once we've looked further into the idea, the status may change to one of the following:
    • Archived - It's an idea we won't be pursuing.  If this happens, we'll usually provide reasoning behind the decision, but it should be a rare occurrence.
    • Future Consideration - It's an idea we like, one that we can solve, but one that doesn't fit in our immediate priorities; i.e. it's not something we would be solving at least for the next release or two.
    • Accepted - Good news - It's an idea we both like, and have agreed on finding a solution for.  We may have already done the work in an internal (alpha or beta) build, or we're in the middle of the development, or just started on it ... regardless, the commitment to delivering a solution in an upcoming release is officially there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys @trevor.adams @tj.galda I appreciate the comments. It's really uplifting to hear that you are listening and working on stuff. As a softimage user it's been difficult to transition and there are many alternative options out there. So personally I would love to see Maya improve and make it as good as possible because I like the software a lot but it's also lacking in many ways.

We're a small post studio and it would be great to have a call with you about maya which could be mutually beneficial.

Thanks again.
