XGen Shading Problem

I have recently been experimenting with XGen and came across a bug where materials are not being assigned correctly - 95% of the primitives are unaffected, however some of the primitives have one material assigned to the entire primitive, overriding all other materials. In the attached image one plant was archived with 3 materials - 2 leaves and a stem. I recolored the stem texture red so it is easy to see where the stem texture is being applied to the entire plant. Changing seed values and other distribution parameters simply shifts where these random errors occur.

I am not sure why this is happening or how to go about fixing it. I tried the same setup in Maya 2016 and 2017 and both had the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
