Xgen Interactive Groom Linear Wire not working as intended

Hello community, it's be again! It's tough finding support for Xgen so you are my only hope.

So I want to use Linear Wire like Steven does here.

When he creates the curves, they appear only the area where they are hair.

But when I do it, it creates curves covering the whole mesh!

If anyone has a clue what's up I would really appreciate it!

Thanks for your time.

Kind regards,

Dan

Either you only bind to a set of faces, not the whole geo or you use a density mask to determine where the guides are generated. If you are using a density mask on the main description, you can use the same mask on the linear wire.

Control XGen Density

In the video you linked to, the description was only bound to certain faces on the mesh and also had a density mask, which was hooked up in the manner above, which is why the density could be adjusted and not generate guides everywhere. If you bind to the whole mesh, XGen has to assume you want hairs or guides on the whole mesh unless you specify the areas where you DO want them.

Cheers

Sweet! I did use density maps but it took me a while to find that all of the maps I use are in "Yourmayaproject\sourceimages\3dPaintTextures", just in case some one else is stuck too. Then just hook them up and it's done. Thanks Michael, this forum is the best!

This solution doesn't work in my case, cause I used the Density Brush (not Maps/Masks) to control where my groom appears more or less, when i added the linear wire, it groomed wires in areas where there is zero density created using the Brush.

This means I need to work twice to make the linear wire has same shape like original groom, sometimes this is hard mission to accomplish, regardless of extra time lost to repeat the density brush process again.
