Where are panel layouts stored?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out where panel layouts are stored.

According to the online guide:

"workspaces are stored as separate files in your user directory and persist automatically, while panel layouts are stored in scene files."

But in my experience panel layouts are also stored locally, which I believe is proven by the fact that you can specify which layout to load on scenes opening

That being said if I try to look for the specific panel layout in userPrefs.mel or windowPrefs.mel I can't find the specific string for the layout anywhere.

Do layout exist in a state of quantum indeterminacy? 👀

Jokes aside, I'm pulling my hairs out (not that I have many left) trying to figure this one out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance and good day to all.

I found it in the userPrefs.mel file. Had to make a new PanelLayout, called it "Fart Noise", and after a LOT of digging, there it is:

Edit: If I search for the next "fart" instance in the file, it'll jump to the actual "panelConfiguration".

Thanks man. Haven't dug any further into the matter because I probably found some other way to tackle the issue I had back then, but as soon as I have some spare time I might look into this as it might turn to be useful in the future.
