Unable to add image textures to objects in Maya scene

Hello everyone,

Bear with me as I am a Maya novice. Made the switch from Blender over to Maya recently.

I am attempting to add image textures to a Maya scene. Whenever I create an image texture in the hypershade window, it doesn't show up on the object (after middle-click dragging from the texture box to the actual object in the scene). Instead I get the connection editor (whereby I attempt to click 'Make"and nothing seems to happen). My guess is that it might be the order in which I am placing the texture in relation to the material, but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (screenshot attached).

Hi Nadimizaidi,

So in order to apply a texture to your model you want to apply it to the material associated with that model, not the model itself.

So firstly Assign a new material to your model. Right click and hold and scroll down to Assign new material...., then pick Lambert.

Then go to your hypershade and attach your texture to your models material colour.

reference hypershade.PNG

You should see the texture on your material now.

Hope that helps and ask if you have nay questions.
