Two questions about Mash

Hello I have two questions about Mash I hope someone can help me.

- Is it possible to use Arnold attributes in Mash copies ? I can't understand how to use subdivision surfaces with Mash.

- I want to export Mash points position. Using the "points" node I can access points attributes like point id, position, rotation, which is great. Now I wonder how can I associate these attributes to Mash geo and export an alembic file so I can use them in another package like Houdini ?

Thank you

So,

1. yes- you just assign your shaders as normal, except, that if you want to use the color from mash - you will need to turn on "export CPV" on the repro           node because Arnold doesn't support color per vertex by default

  1. Kinda -  not sure what you are trying to do with the points, If you are wanting to bake the mash network and export: that is under the utilities on the mash menu.  I'm not not sure about the points stuff though, because MASH will just export the geo.  So you can export that to alembic after (not straight up from mash - just export from Maya after baking it)

Best of luck on your project, and I hope this helps you out.  Maybe others with more MASH experience can also chime in.  Cheers

Thank you for your reply

1: Yes the shaders are ok, I'm trying to export subdivision surfaces attributes to Mash network, I wrote on SolidAngle forum and they told me it is possible to set subd only on repro mesh, not on single instances.

2: I'd like to export point position to, say, import them in Houdini and emit particles from them. Mainframe guys on Twitter told me I can use the "Breakout" node but I didn't figure it out how to use it, anyone can help ?

Thank you
