How to restore the toolbar description ?

When I hover to an icon, it pops up a blank white small dialog.   I am not familiar with all icons.  Without this it makes much harder for me.  I hope one of you have the solution for me.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for posting. Those are called tool tips and they should appear in the when hovering over commands.

When did the issue start? Maybe try resetting Maya: Reset Maya to Default

Also, try updating your GPU drivers.

I explored Maya interface in details.

I have noticed that not all are missing.     The only missing are from the top menu with small icons.  Shelves icons are fine and the panel icons are fine.

The only type of icons on the top menu icons is working, which is called selection mask icons.   The rest of others such as file, symmetry, selection mode, lock , rendering and snap icons do not work.  I have followed the instructions to rename the Pref folder and restarted Maya.   It did not work out.

Sigh!  See attached photos that it may be helpful for me to be clarify.

Hi @Anonymous

Ah! I think this is referring to ToolClips? 🙂 If so, check your settings under Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences. Select Help on the left side, and make sure the ToolClip settings are turned on.

Hit the save button, and see if that does the trick 🙂

Yes I did.   Did you notice that it works for some areas?  I tried checking only ToolClips.  Then I tried the second one "Display tool name and shortcut only".    It does not work.  For now, I guess somewhere it got corrupted. Capture.PNG

I almost gave up after reinstalling Maya.    I came across to https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Maya-Cus...

I checked and there are no files under these folders: Resources and Content.  I think this is the root of problems.  The question is where could |I find a copy of files to put back into these folder.  I never did the custom toolclips.  Any idea?
