Standard Surface shows white in modeling window

Maya 2020.

When I add a aiStandardShader to my model, everything is fine.  When I add a standardSurface… it shows pure white in my modeling window.  These two shaders are identical except the one is an aiStandardSurface the other is just a standard surface.  Anyone know how to make the standard surface show correctly in the modeling window?

 They render just fine.

FYI.  In case anyone else has this issue.

I deleted my preferences and now the shader works fine...
