Soft Body

hey, I'm pretty much a rookie with Maya and I was trying to achieve a soft body but I couldn't make get it.

When I apply a soft body to a sphere I can modify its attributes to get something like a deflate or even that it bounces but I'm not sure why it's not a real soft body, like a jelly or flexible ball. I'm definitely missing a parameter here but I'm not sure which one gets the trick because all I get it's not really soft

Hi!

A lot of Info missing, like current network and settings (maybe upload a scene-file).

If Soft Body doesn't fit your needs, you could try nCloth instead, there are also some presets available.

I am guessing you are using the bullet solver !

could you please share your file or show us your settings, maybe an example of what you are trying to achieve!

Cheers

yep, I'm trying to use the bullet soft body I was hoping to get something along this line even if this is done with Real flow. Trying to get a "jelly-like" body, something that bounces like that, but I'm missing the parameters that make that soft, all I can get it's something that bounces maintaining its shape or that deflates like with the ncloth.

for this I would use ncloth ! use the first preset and go from there! it is much faster to set up and play with!

give it a try and let know how you get on! maybbe I can post a sample scene if you can’t make it work as you llike

but I am sure you will do it with ncloth a lot faster!

That's lovely. It's clearly way better to go this way than going on with the bullet, thanks for the heads up, and for the scene, I really appreciate it.

We can close it. I can always open another one if I bump into any other issue. Have a nice day 🙂

Hi, I was looking for some answers regarding soft body dynamics, found your test scene - really explains a lot, thanks! But I have one more question: what if I would like to have one of these balls bounce really high? Setting bounce higher than one gives some weird results...

thanks in advance!

Hello, I would suggest trying a different method in this case, maybe try increasing the mass and inicial velocity , try reducing friction also... I would have a look later as I am traveling today and get back to you when possible.

Have a great day.
