Simulating wetness in Arnold (maya 2018)

I'm doing some client work for a business that washes roofs, im playing around with the effect of wetness being applied to the tiles on the roofs, the idea that wet surfaces like bricks and tiles become darker and more reflective when wet. The effect looks rather convincing in the viewport but less so when rendered in arnold. i was also trying to make the shader a procedural texture as the water is being sprayed onto the roof from left to right, eventually making the entire roof wet. I was just using this patches of wetness as a starting point and i couldnt get a procedural shader to work. Im an animator mostly so rendering and working with shaders is not strong suit. what suggestions would you have to make the wetness effect more noticeable in arnold?
