Hi,

Im a long term 3ds max user and now having to use Maya. I'm having issues when it comes to making selections in component mode (see attached video).

Is there a workaround for this? its so hard to work this way.

That doesn't seem right. I'm wondering if it could be an graphics card driver issue?

What happens is you go into Windows > Settings / Preferences > Preferences > Display and change the Viewport 2.0 Rendering Engine (at the bottom) to DirectX 11 and restart Maya?

If that works then might want to try and use the certified driver version:

Thanks @brentmc ill give this a go and report back. For the time being I changed the selection preset in preferences to animation and it seems to have solved it for now......not sure if it bugged out or something.

When you right click and go to vertex, you are in a temporary sub object mode, if you use the toggle F8 key you leave object mode and are in component mode for all objects. When you are in the temporary mode, you can still pick other objects, so when you drag over a set of curves, the object gets selection priority.(that can be adjusted in pref. )

That's so useful to know thank you @BradClarkRiggingDojo. I haven't checked as I'm not at my computer atm, but is it possible to remap the right click temporary component modes to the permanent ones?

Not easily, faster to map to hotkeys the object/component toggle from F8, you can't edit the context marking menus easily in Maya still, not like you can in Max.
