Retopologize makes model looks sharper

Hello! So, I was trying to export a model from Vroid study to Maya in order to animate it, however, it{s original topology is horrible (Even though the texturing and rigging seem to work fine), I'm afraid its original topology will mess up my render times and shading.

I've tried fixing the topology by using the retopologize tool. It worked fine with her hair, however, it messes up the body geometry a bit, making it look more square, even if it fixes its topology quite well.

Things I've tried:

  1. Using the cleanup tool before retopologizing.

  2. Changing the target face count to higher and lower values. 3

  3. Reducing uniformity, regularity, and maxing anisotropy.

Can anyone help me with this? I would really appreciate it if someone could point me to what new things I could try to fix it or somewhere to look.

EDIT: I´ve already tried softening the edges both after and before retopologizing

Thanks

You just need to soften your normals.

Hi! Thanks for the response. I've already tried doing that both before and after using retopology. The effect is the same, I still have sharp edges after the retopology process.
