I tried creating an xgen description on a simple plane as an example and when I went to render with arnold, it said "xgen: Could not initialize the Patch renderer" I tried applying aistandardhair to it and it still threw the same error

Hi @Bryant4863

Did you export the patches before rendering?

If that doesn't help, you may want to check and make sure your Arnold is up to date and also unload then reload all of the Xgen plugins.

I also have this error  suddenly.  Arnold is refusing to render.  I never export anything for batch render.  I literately just start with a new scene, create a default sphere, create xgen description and render.

Could you let me know what exactly to do? I didn't get that; what do we have to fill in the Xg base file and Xg delta files column? What names, names? Thanks in advance!

Also, shall we turn on XgExport As Delta?

Hello @Anonymous,

Enter „name“ in the field XG File Name, “name” at XG Base File and “names” at XgDelta Files. You can leave Xg Export As Delta unchecked.
For more information about the settings, please see this post in the Arnold Forum: How Do I Actually Assign Standard Surface Shader To XGen Collection?

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Patrick

Hi,

I have the same problem but ''name, name, names'' doesn't work at all. I have applied aiStandardHair material, Skydome light, set the renderer to Arnold Renderer in Xgen, saving my scene all the time and still getting ''# Error: line 1: [xgen] Could not initialize the Patch renderer.'' I absolutely don't know what to do anymore. Sometimes when I create more descriptions within the same collection, it renders just a few of them randomly (even though using the exact same settings) and I'm still getting the same error.

SOLVED!:

For anyone having the same problem as I had, make sure you DON'T change the name of the object Xgen is applied to after it was applied! Do it BEFORE applying. Otherwise, it will lose the connection between the object and Xgen. That's what I did and didn't realize that such basic stuff can make such a mess. 😂

THIS is what finally worked for me. I had XGen grass assigned to "pPlane1" and changed the name in the Outliner to simply "grassPlane". When I read this post I changed it back to "pPlane1" and I knew it was going to work when all the fans in my tower started to rapidly speed up. Thank you so much for this! Instantly GOAT'd.
