Problem sliding vertices along edges (Maya 2016)

Hi,

since I started using Maya 2016 I' m having following problem:

As soon as I want to slide any vertice along an Edge (I know how it' s done properly - with Maya 2015 it was always working) The vertice jumps to a near position, without starting to slide along the edge.

As I was starting to have this problem with Maya 2015 I just pressed the select mode and changed back to the move mode and it mostly worked - in the worst cases - if it still didn' t work I moved the camera into another position and tried it again and at least than it always working.

But now both workarounds are not working anymore and the vertice just stays stuck there beneath the line.

I already read about a solution; "You should delete any paranted object and it should work again" - that helped for maybe two minutes and afterwards the vertices started to get stuck into nowhere again...

Do you have any other solution for it?

Or could it just be that this problem just happens because I was starting to model this model with 2015 first and after a while changed to 2016 to continue working with it? (Compability issue?)

It would be great if anyone could help me...

I searched for the same problem all over the Internet - but couldn' t find any thread about the same problem.

Thanks for your help! 🙂

Sounds like you possibly have snapping enabled.

I've had this issue before where all of a sudden any time I selected something the move tool was in snap mode and saving and closing and re-opening fixed the issue.

Are you using the transform constraint option in the Move Tool settings? I find that works with the most reliability. (Make sure Snap Step is off.)

To be sincere, I don' t know where to see if snapping is enabled because the shelf got completely changed in version 2016...

Before I could see it directly inside of the polygons shelf - if any kind of snapping was enabled... Do you know how I can get these buttons back into my shelf? They where really useful and now suddenly they are away 😞

Anyway inside the move tool all move snap settings are unchecked already - but I assume you where referring to the usual snapping I' m searching for like point/grid/curve snap... Right?

Anyway I can' t recognize any kind of snapping if I move the vertices in any Axis normally - just as I' m trying to snap a vertice to an edge to be able to slide along it (for me a really essencial function while modeling) it snaps into nowhere besides it...

It works with the transform constraint option set to edge - but it' s still a workaround instead of properly sliding the vertice along the edge - because I have to use it very often...

Or is there a shortcut to turn Edge constrain on and of (or a possibility to set it as a shortcut) - the same like I can turn on and off  curve snapping with the c button? In that case it would be a good substitution.

Already thank you both a lot - I have the feeling that through your help I' m getting to the right way to find a solution.

Once you have selected Edge Constraint, you can toggle it on and off by middle-mouse clicking the down arrow next to that field in either the move tool settings or the modeling toolkit.
