Preferences won't show up

Hi all,

after a search through the internet for my problem, I want to try and ask directly here for a solution. The problem is simple to explain, when I click on the preferences button, the preferences will not show up. Doesn't matter if I click on the button on the buttom right or in the menu "Window/Setting/Preferences".

All other windows open up correctly, the script editor doesn't show anything when I click on it although I'm not sure if it should anyway.

I have a Maya 2011 x64 student license, Windows 7 Professional, AMD Phenom II X4 810 Processor 2.60 Ghz and an ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series.

Anyone know something about this problem? I would appreciate any kind of feedback and support,

Thanks in advance,

Sincerely,

AMess

your preferences window could be off screen, so might be worth deleteing your windowPrefs.mel (located *user*\maya\2011-x64\prefs\)

When you start maya back up again all your windows startup position will return to default.

You can delete the "windowPrefs.mel" file it's enough.

Fixed it by:

Left mouse click the icon with the little guy running next to a gear located at the bottom right of the Maya screen.

When you do, press alt+space bar at the same time. If done successfully, a pop up window will appear. Choose maximize and move the panel to a visible location on your screen.

The issue was that the preferences panel was off screen. This steps should re-center it without having to delete pref folder. Hope it helps!
