Hello Forum,
I'm trying to import an image with transparency from Photoshop to Maya.
The sprites in this are then to be put together and layered over one another, and animated.
However, I can't get the transparency to port over correctly. Originally transparency didn't work at all, but I was recommended "Intel Texture Works" and to export it from Photoshop as a '.DDS' file.
This partly worked, but the transparency only works as though each sprite were a square object, stretching the edge of the texture as in the image below, rather than having the transparency flush against the 'edge' of the object as it appears in Photoshop above.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!
Do use transparency in Maya you would actually need to make an alpha texture. This is a basic texture that just has black where you want it to be transparent and white where you want it to be not transparent.
While its for a leaf, this video shows how alpha maps work and should help you out.
