Odd Clipping Issue

Hey there!

I seem to be having a bit of an odd sorting/clipping issue.

To reproduce the issue, convert linear units to Meters.
Then zoom out a fair bit so that there is a good bit of room around the grid.
Now create a poly cube and scale it up to be the size of the grid.
Now zoom the camera out and I start to see the surfaces break up into
triangles.

Attached is a screen shot of what I am seeing.

I am running 8.5, with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (6.14.11.6218)
on windows 2000 at 1600x1200 on two monitors.

Adjust the clipping planes on your perspective camera. They should not be set more than six or seven decimal places apart.

You're always taking a chance when using GeForce cards with Maya, they're unsupported. And Windows 2000 is a bit archaic, it's also unsupported for Maya 8.x.

Indeed it seems to be a near-clipping plane issue. I bumped it up a touch and that seemed to fix the issue.

Thanks much for the insight. I know the GeForce line is a bit touchy, but the Quadro's are a bit pricey 🙂
Someday I will have enough money to pick up a proper card.

Thanks again!

Actually, you can get a low-end Quadro for about $200

Will the performance be similar to the card I have then? I was afraid that the performance would be worse,
even if it were a more stable card.

Right now the issues I am having with the GeForce are minor, and I would much rather have the speed if that were
the trade off.
