I am working with a scene from a practice file online from wiley.com. I extracted the files, and opened the scene. The objects are there in the outliner, and the 3 axis trident appears when I try to edit its values. Visibility is on and nothing is hidden. The objects do not appear.
One thing to try is making sure the viewport is showing all the different types of objects. At the top of the viewport is a menu bar with items like "View", "Shading", "Lighting", "Show", etc. Click on the "Show" menu and then select "All".
