I load my rendered texture, an .exr file in photoshop to work with it but Smiley Surprised there are tons of adjustments i cant do with this file!

So i checked the render settings in maya and choosed "png" under the "common / file output" tab but it was till saved as .exr.

I also tried with "jpg"..... but still the same. Any ideas?

Hi!

"there are tons of adjustments i cant do with this file!"

That's a limitation of Photoshop for 32 bit files.

Solution:

1. Convert the file in Photoshop to 16 or 8 bit, or

2. Use an other Image/Video Application.

"So i checked the render settings in maya and choosed "png" under the "common / file output" tab but it was till saved as .exr."

What do you mean with "saved".

Do you use Batch Render, Render Sequence, ...?

Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup. Maya creates new folders. Detailed at:

ok, thanks so far!

1. Convert the file in Photoshop to 16bit works, yes.... BUT it will also change the original color/brightness..... in this case its not soooooo dramatic because its an ambient occlusion map.

2. with save i mean, i am trying to render to texture (Arnold->Utilities->Render Selection to Texture)

Hi!

1. This depends on Color Spaces, Color Profiles and used Conversion Algorithm. To explain this all in detail would be out of the scope of this forum.

There should not be any "visible" change.

2. Render Selection to Texture tries to preserve as many Information as possible and is not tied to (Batch-) Render Settings.

Ooooh well, so then i am at the same point as before.....

So there is no chance to get my texture in another file than .exr??

I am very new to maya and the last project i started was a few weeks ago in maya 2016 and mental ray.... this was a lot easier.... Smiley Frustrated

Hi!

There are 2 options / solutions:

1. Convert the file (in Photoshop or any other application)

2. Install Mental Ray for Maya 2017 plugin (version for Maya 2018 should be released soon)

Both options work.

(Never change Maya Version during a project.)

Ok i understand.

Convert the file to 16bit would be a good solution if i find a way to retain the original colors... didnt found any answers at google yet.

Mental Ray for Maya 2017? I think you have to buy it since its not included in Maya anymore? So this is not a good solution for me...... And i also dont want to work with mental ray anymore. Ppl told me Arnold does a very good job Smiley Wink

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi!

1. Just avoid any "default" HDR Toning when using Photoshop.

"Mental Ray for Maya 2017? I think you have to buy it since its not included in Maya anymore? So this is not a good solution for me..."

2. Wrong, the plugin is free and you need a license only for batch rendering, so it is a good solution.
