Hi!

A button only executes a certain command.

Just assign the command directly to your hotkeys.

You can find more about hotkeys and shelf in the Maya online help.

Yes.

  1. Open Hotkey Editor
  2. On the right side (where the keyboard showing) choose the second tab Runtime Command Editor
  3. Press the New button and drag and drop with the middle mouse button the MEL/Python script from the shelf, add the name.
  4. Press Save Runtime Command
  5. On the left side of the Hotkey Editor window from an "Edit Hotkeys For" dropdown menu choose Custom Scripts and choose the custom script you created
  6. Assign the hotkey.

Hope it will help.
