Model References: Student Version File (Maya 2017/2018)

In working with larger scene files for a group project at school an issue keeps popping up that I wanted to see if there was a way around in order to save time. In referencing in a large amount of files which are developed within student versions of Maya I have this issue of having to continuously hit "continue" on a prompt window (attached image below) for every individual object that is in the scene. This may not seem that large of an issue, but when there are 100+ objects in a scene this slows down the process by a couple minutes whenever I have to save the scene.

I am not super proficient in Python or scripting and was not sure if there was a direct way around this issue there, but if there are any fixes to this that come to mind that would be awesome! It would definitely save our group time, so any approaches would be excellent to try!

Hi!

There is no way around this. That's the (only) limitation of free student version.

You can try to group objects together in some scenes to reduce the amount of reference files and unload references not currently needed at master scene.

Cool, I'll give that a try! Unfortunately some of our shots require a vast majority of the objects to be in the scene, but we are keeping only what is necessary per shot. Thanks for the idea though!

Hi!

You could also try to import objects into the scene and replace them later manual or by a script when they where edited.

This should not be a problem for static objects and simple animations, as long as they are grouped under an additional parent transform that is used for animation.

Are you guys working on laptops or on systems in a lab? If it's the latter, you need to talk with your administrator about using the Educational licenses.

Cheers,

I found a solution ONLY for if you work half the time in student versions and the remaining time with actual licenses. You are able to delete a line of code attached below if you go into the file script. It is pointless if you are using a student version all of the time because it will just add it back, but if you are mainly working on a computer with a license it will remain deleted until you go back to a student version!

Hope this helps anyone!
