Middle mouse button pan alternatives

Hey guys, a few hours ago my Logitech G602's middle mouse button decided to stop working. Because of this, I can't pan the viewport in Maya, an issue that is sorta hard to work around. I did a bit of digging in the hotkey editor but found no option to reassign the action. I was wondering if there is a possible way to do this? I learned of a fix for my mouse, but I'm waiting for the parts to ship. In the meantime, I want to still be capable of working on my assorted projects. Thanks for the help!

Hi @chris052159

If you are on a Mac I believe you can press Shift + CTRL + ALT LMB to pan.

For Windows I'm not sure if there's a key combination but you can instead make a hotkey for the Camera Track Tool. This camera tools works the same way as panning.

Hey Alfredo,

I believe he is referring to left mouse button, shortened to LMB. Hope that answers your question!

THIS DOESN'T WORK - On a Macbook.

Looks like Autodesk "don't do" Macs.

The bug has come back up on macbook Maya 2023.1

Went to Windows -> Settings/Preferences -> Hotkey Editor

Inside I searched for Pan Zoom Tool -> Dropdown Arrow -> Clicked Add Additional Hotkey (If one isn't defined, just click in the blank area).

Assign something without a hotkey (I chose 8 on the keyboard)

Save and exit out of the Editor. Pressing 8 will bring the pan zoom tool out as a function and you can then pan around with LMB.

Hi,

In the 3D View click on the View menu and then Camera Tools > Track Tool.

As suggested in a previous reply in the thread you can map this tool to a hotkey for faster access.
