Maya won't open after Windows 10 update

I had Maya 2016 (student version) earlier this year, and during the Summer my laptop did an update for Windows 10 and after that, Maya no longer opened. I wasn't too worried because it wasn't during school. I tried fixing it anyway, so I went in my update settings and did the thing where it's suppose to go back to the previous version of windows, but it didn't work. I figured I'd wait till school started and get my friend to help, because she had the same issue (same laptop and everything) and she could fix it.

Fast forward to today, I uninstalled Maya 2016, since I need 2017 for school and hope it works since it's a new Maya. It still doesn't.

Even better, it doesn't work for my friend either, who apparently had done the same thing I tried before to fix it, and for some reason it worked for her, but now when she installed 2017 it doesn't work anymore.

We've tried everything we could find online and it doesn't work. We don't even have the option to go back to an older Windows, because we already did it/ it's been too long since the update, or something like that.

When we click on Maya 2017 to open it, the icon appears on the bottom for 0.5 seconds and then does nothing.

We're desperate at this point and would really like any type of help, since we can't even call/email Autodesk for support since we aren't subscribed..

I am sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Maya 2017 on your Windows 10 computer. There is this forum (of another user) with the exact same issue that you are experiencing - Our expert has advised a solution there! Can you and your friend try the suggested solution and let me know if it works?

Hey, thanks for the reply! Sadly we've already tried those solutions, along with almost any other one we could find..

We're totally running out of ideas by now. Smiley Sad

Good news! I was able to fix it by using this page: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

Apparently the update broke some programs and all I had to do was repair them!
