Solved: Maya will not start

It always worked fine before yesterday, but then it crashed and started giving me this error after the splash screen

two windows pop up, the first one says :

Cannot find procedure "softModCtx".

Start of trace: (file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2016/scripts/startup/initContexts.mel, line 198).

softModCtx (file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2016/scripts/startup/initContexts.mel, line 198).

second window says:

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2016/scripts/startup/initContexts.mel line 198: Cannot find procedure "softModCtx". //

p.s. I'm using maya 2016 because 2017 and 18 don't support the faceshift software.

Hi!

Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:

Hi!

If resetting preferences does not work your only other option is to "clean" uninstall and re-install Maya.

I tried that aswell didn't work, I found the only solution was to reset my whole operating system, That has fixed the problem.
